This year’s Ghostwalk and Harvest Moon Hayride hosted by the Junior Service League of Summerville and Summerville DREAM, was held on Saturday, October 29, 2011. Over 800 people attended this year to participate in the Ghostwalk tours, carnival games, and harvest moon hayride. The Junior Service League of Summerville was able to raise over $5000 to go towards the JSL SSEF.
There were several activities for the attendees to participate in. The kid friendly G-Rated ghost tour had light hearted stories based on scary pumpkins, spiders, hairy toes, and ended with a fun magician. The spooky PG-Rated ghost tour had confederate soldiers that shot fake cannons and guns, Summerville ghost stories, and the very scary haunted Shop of Horrors. The carnival games consisted of a Mad Scientist Lab, Fortune Teller, Pumpkin Putt, Pumpkin Painting, Face Painting, Cupcake Walk, Scentsy Buddy Toss, Corn Hole Toss, and a spooky alley. All the vendors gave out wonderful prizes and candy to all the young gamers.
Summerville DREAM had the Harvest Moon Hayride that toured downtown Summerville. Susan Morris from DREAM stated, “I think you can say that it was another successful event with JSL and we were really happy with the turn out. We had a lot of happy hay riders. We spoke with a lot of people who were there for the first time and it gave them a really favorable impression of Summerville as well as introducing them to the downtown area!”
Money raised from Ghostwalk and Scarecrows on the Square funds the JSL SSEF (School Supply Emergency Fund). With funds raised from last year, this year we are able to donate $250 to 18 local schools! The amount of money we raise each year determines how much we are able to divide among the schools the following year. This year we will exceed that amount and be close to donating $300 to each local school.
