FAQ
- How can I find out how many hours I have submitted?
Send an email to Denise at: hours@summervillejsl.org to request your hours. Be sure to leave your name, in case your email address might not be in her contacts.
- How long does it take for my hours to be logged, once I submit them?
Denise will usually have it entered within a week of submission. She’ll bring updated information on all member’s hours to the General Meetings. All hours submitted by the 5:00 pm on the Friday before the General Meeting will be entered before the meeting.
- The last General (Provisional) Meeting ran long. Can I get credit for the extra time?
No. The meetings each count for 1 hour. We do our best to keep General and Provisional Meetings down to 1 hour, but sometimes they run late. However, only 1 hour counts toward your requirements.
- I stayed late to help clean up after a meeting. Can I get credit for the extra time?
Not really. As stated above, you can count only 1 hour for each meeting. However, an exception to the rule: if you were acting as part of the Hospitality Committee, time spent cleaning up the food from the meeting would count as Committee (Additional Meetings) hours.
- I plan to attend a Gab Fab. Would those hours count?
Yes – count it as Additional Meeting hours (like a committee meeting). These can be used to make up for a missed meeting.
- I brought food for Hospitality at the General Meeting. Do those hours count?
Sorry, no. It doesn’t count unless it serve one of our approved organizations. Please accept the gratitude of your fellow League members as your reward – we do appreciate it!
- I am fostering a homeless pet for the Francis R. Willis SPCA. How many hours can I count for that?
Fostering a pet will count as 2 hours per day (no matter how many pets).
- I am employed by (or on the Board of) one JSL’s approved organizations. Do my hours worked for this organization count?
Yes and no: It depends on what role you were performing them in – as an employee or as a JSL member (wearing your JSL shirt and name tag). If you were there in your capacity of a JSL member and it was an activity that every other JSL member has the opportunity to participate in, it’s fine to count the hours. For example, if you are employed by Habitat for Humanity, you could get credit for your work at a build site in your JSL attire, but not for administrative work you do in the course of your job. In another example, if you are on the board of The ARK, you could get credit for working at “Race for the ARK” passing out water or helping with registrations in your JSL attire, but not for planning a volunteer appreciation banquet in the course of your board service.
- I prepared (our bought) food as requested for one of the organizations we support. Do those hours count?
Absolutely. You would earn 1 hour of service to that organization.
- I’m having trouble with the online hours submission form. What should I do?
First, please be sure to send an email to hours@summervillejsl.com to report the issue! You can also include in the email the info you tried to report online, or you can wait and turn in a hard copy of the completed form to Denise at the next General or Provisional Meeting.
- I signed the roll at the meeting. Do I still have to report my hours?
YES. Always report all your hours through the approved submission method.
- My situation isn’t covered by these questions, or there are extenuating circumstances. Is there anyone I can appeal to for approval anyway?
Every situation is different. It’s not possible to cover every question with this form. Sometimes, the Co-Presidents will need to make a judgement call about whether hours can count. In those cases, please feel free to contact the Co-Presidents with your question. You won’t know if you don’t ask.
- I don’t want to forget to submit my hours – Can I submit them online early?
Please do not submit them early! You can write them on the hard form and hold it until the next meeting.
